Don't want to come off as, yeah and? but, this site is already behind in the area of interactivity. Vbdirectx (my site), vb-scene and blackhole already have this functionality. My point is, chuchu mentioned tearing the community apart. If there are sites that already do this, why make another one. All those things, news posting, link submissions, message boards, user tracking, etc.... already been done. Now, I have been thinking. Why not use the egroups vbdirectx forum (no association with my site) to do all the message posting. The ads I can live with, it requires no login (you can if you do it online, otherwise it comes in the email as a digest or single mails) and the archive goes back to dec of 1998. They never delete your messages, you can post attachments and you can store files in the library.... I have been using it for 2 years, Patrice Scribe is a very active member, a lot of good people on that list. Currently it runs 300+ messages a month. That is a lot of information swapping back and forth, plus it would elminate all this "down" message boazrd time, or maintence for site admins to worry about. Plus, it already has a bucketload of subscribers. So it is not a raw system. That said.... I would rather not get into a pissing war contest over whos site is better. That is a complete waste of time, and would do us and the community no better either. Things I have to offer... 15 years of programming experience. 4 Years in ASP and cold fusion development alone. We market market market.... My site currently enjoys 80 outside hits (goto.com, dogpile.com, search.com, etc...) simply because I have bought search engine keywords for certain things like vbdirectx, directx, basic, dxsdk, etc... That translates to my site comming up in the major browsers becuase ppl use one of those search terms. That is my wife department. So even with a 0 activity on the surface, the site is getting major traffic.... www.vbdirectx.com/stats and my personal stats www.vbdirectx.com/admin/ulogs.asp ... for only 2 weeks worth of work. So, skills, marketing/promotion and programming. As for content provisions, that is something I have left ot the users because I am a busy indiviual. So, if everyone could get together, put all our skills in one bucket and design a site around that, this might be the best thing. Plus, at that point, it would be possible to generate money form the site unobtrusively. That is, shirt sales, cups, etc... BS stuff, Banners if need be, crazy ideas could even turn into a convention for VB and DX devers. If I am correct, this is how GDnet got going. So it isn't that far fetched.
