Hmmm, I would tend to disagree here. 200k raw hits a month is an extreme amount of traffic. The alrgest site I have being used garners 1 million a year, which is less than 100k a month. That site is a flurry of activity (www.electrolysisreferral.com) and quite honestly, adding up all these sites for VB and DX together they still don't come close to that kind of traffic. I would even venture a supposition that gamedev.net gets just under 2.5 million hits a year. As for shirts and the whatnot, there are plenty of other things to give away free. Hersey chocolate has an affilates program, they give you products on a dialy basis, just for banner inpressions. Visor handheld devices also has something along those lines, there are plenty of outlets if you actually look for them, whcih are free. Shirts can be made for next to nothing. Logo placement you can barter. Don't think that money is the ends anymore, visiblity is the key. That is why banners and tv ads work. If they weren't seen, no one would pay to have them.
