The list of new features is so extensive it's almost like a completely different game than in 2003! Most notably is the new (in beta) MatchFinder feature which acts like an online lobby for finding and connecting with other players to play online against! The game now includes expansive roamable maps complete with moving obstacles / objects to take cover behind, new graphical enhancements (scorch decals, particle effects, etc.) and lots of engine optimizations. It still has minimal system requirements (133MHz running Windows98 or 200MHz running XP) but will play like a champ on the latest and greatest hardware as well. The download weighs in at a little under 1MB, so check it out!

vbGORE 0.2.1

vbGORE, Visual Basic Online RPG Engine, is a powerful 2d rpg game engine designed for those who really want to create a commercial game. It requires a bit of time to learn about all there is to it, it isn't as simple as some other engines due to what it has to offer, but is very fast and flexible.
vbGORE offers a very powerful networking system that is sure to allow even the weak home connections to support plenty of users. There is also a fast and powerful graphics engine that allows multiple graphical layers, lighting, particle engine, weather, paperdolling, custom GUIs, and much more.
Most of the features in vbGORE, too, are easy to ignore or remove or wont bog down the engine, making it so you don't have to spend days just removing code that you don't want to use.
Finally, vbGORE uses MySQL on the server to store most all the data, allowing for very easy modification and the ability to access and display the information remotely.
Theres a lot to the engine, so you'll just have to check it out! :D

Natura (Beta)
10/20/2005 8:59:25 AM | Posted by: Shaedo | 46 comments Website Natura was created as a university group project for a degree in Computer & Videogame Development. The game is a 2D arcadey/pinbally/puzzly type game and was coded 100% in VB6 using DirectX 8.
HOW TO PLAY: ------------------------ AIM: The aim of the game is to fill the rage bar(bottom-left of screen) by destroying the spore (fuzzy pink looking things) on the screen before the time runs out. Alternatively, a level can be completed by destroying ALL of th spore on screen, which will reward you with a "perfect" score. Element (powerup) points are available in the form of hoops in each level. By passing through the hoops you will gain a certian element (the powerup effect will run out overtime). Colliding with the spore once you have collected an element will not destroy the spore, but "stain" it in whatever element you currently have active. Spore can be stained by all 3 elements at the same time by hitting them with all 3 elements one after another (be careful though, if you hit a spore with the same element twice you will destroy it). By combining the elements in this way the rage bar will be filled faster than if you were to destroy the spore with no element. Also, when staining spore with an element, an area of effect occurs depending on the speed you are travelling at. Use Pods to manouver around the level faster. Once a level is either won or lost, press the escape key to quit.
When you complete a level, remember the time left and try to beat it. I just had a quick go and completed level 1 with 153 seconds remaining.
Confused yet?
There are bound to be a few things that I have missed out, but playing around a bit should reveal them. If you get really confused, post a comment and I'll try to explain a little better.
CONTROLS: ----------------------------- SPACEBAR: When inside a pod, hold down to charge and release to shoot. When outside of a pod, a temporary boost to the players speed.
ARROW KEYS: When inside a pod, the arrow keys are used to angle the pod. When outside of a pod, the arrow keys are used to give a small amount of control over the ball.
ESC: quit.
F1: display frame rate.
Anyways here is the fruit of our labour, Have fun!:

Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind that this is only an unfinished beta version and may still contain a few bugs.
Toby.
p.s. The editor has been included. I will post a brief tutorial in the comments section when I have time.

Dark Realms v0.82 Released!
2/16/2003 11:14:30 PM | Posted by: The Hawk | Post a commentWebsiteDark Realms v0.82 is now uploaded! Massive improvement, not to mention the new resource pack that brags 113 animated NPCs and a tileset that COULD handle 2500 tiles (If someone drew them)! The screenshots provided show some of the new Dark Realms. The option to view your NPCs and proof that Dark Realms can handle roughly 30 animated NPCs in the players view (The player is the dragon)! (It is scripted to have no limits, but for some reason it gives errors when you get around 50)
You HAVE to download Dark Realms, especially since I have made it so easy compared to the old way. The resource pack still needs to be extracted into your Dark Realms folder, but the Exe itself and all the depency files will be installed by the setup program bundled in the Dark Realms Exe download zip :) I need testers to help me inprove this game, download it and let me know what you think about it!

Help Wanted for Interactive Graphical MUD
8/10/2002 12:56:56 AM | Posted by: Rob "Ninja" Ford | Post a comment I am looking for a few good men and women to help complete a modular, full-scale, 2-dimensional massively multiplayer world in which players can meet, interact, and explore. This is meant as an experiment in determining visual basic's ability to handle heavy network traffic and gameplay, and its modular design will allow for different graphic (WinGUI, DirectX, OpenGL?), audio, and network API's to be tested. Currently needed are programmers experienced in massively multiplayer network architecture, DirectDraw design, or audio coding, as well as artists of all types. There is currently no website, so those interested in maintaining such a site are welcome as well. If you're interested, please feel free to email me or contact me on AOL Instant Messenger under "RMan3224."
