Free-Form vs Tile-by-tile Walking... Warder (16 replies, 0 views) (2000-Jul-4)

Well, if you look around at all of the rpg's (source codes) that has been released, you will notice one thing. They all uses a tile-by-tile walking scheme.. Well, that is really great if you wanted to make another Era Online (http://www.eraonline.net). However, for those of you who want to have your users have freedom in walking, that is impossible. Games like Zelda, Secret of Mana, Everquest, whatever console game, you pick it, is not possible so far. Currently, those rpg/samples lets you walk, one tile at a time.. not a freeform all over the screen or anything... Thus is where I am stuck. I can not get a freeform character to NOT to walk on top of blocked tiles and such.. And since there are absolutetly no tutorials out on that sucker, could it be safe to assume that such a thing is impossible?
