I dont know if any of you are in England; even then if you read the Guardian paper on a thursday. anyway; on thurs they have an "online" pull out - this detailed companies that want to make ASP big - not Active Server Pages; Application Server Providers. Basically they (including M$) want there to be a set of super servers that have all the software and HDD's on them - and home computers just to plug into the wall and use these servers. Only hitch is we pay rental to these ASP's - elminating Piracy and makes sure everyone uses the most recent software. If you dont pay rental you lose your connection and possibly even lose your files on the server. IMHO that is shit. Utter Shit. What if we're programmers - like me - with little money (students) that cant rent out M$ high rental fees for using Visual Studio either get it for a little while and then lose it; or worse still lose all their projects because they cant foot the bill..... Anyway; .Net is M$'s idea for this - so far they're working on: Windows.Net Office.Net Visual Studio.Net And others - but these were the only ones mentioned...... As you can see - this whole thing runs very deep - like it or not, 5 years time this'll be how it is.... FYI, in London, England, you can already hire out ASP services (with free terminals and ADSL connection etc...) for £3000 a year... Apparently it's cheaper for a business to do this than buy/maintain a computer..... I for one am pissed off with this - I bet you are too. If you're read this far you must be fairly interested...
