.NET PyroBoy (6 replies, 0 views) (2000-Jul-15) So does that mean that Visual Studio 7, which is now being called Visual Studio.NET, will only be available in the format you mentioned? It had better fucking not be, 'cuz I want a copy of VS7 ON MY HARD DRIVE DAMNIT...
If what you said above is true, sounds to me like M$ is trying to bring us back to the dumb terminal days where each unit was at the mercy of an all-powerfull central server. While dumb terminals were much thinner clients than the .NET idea, it just gives me the creeps to imagine Microsoft controlling a central server or servers with everyone's application data and OS on it. You think they're too powerfull now, just wait.
And imagine the horrendous security problems this creates! Some clever kid somewhere crashes the central .NET servers and the whole fucking PC world gets a bluescreen of death all at once. This is highly unappealing... Makes me want to go buy a Mac, and I don't think anything's ever made me wanna do THAT before... :-)
