New forum for space simulation developpers Mutos (8 replies, 4341 views) (2004-Oct-3) Hi all,
Just dropped on my site a new forum. This one is about space simulations.
It comes from a discussion I had in a forum w/ another space sim developper, namely Cassiel in the TV3D forum. We both complained most people on gaming and engines forums were in RPG/RTS/FPS dev and no-one was space-sim-oriented ^-^
So I dropped a new phpBB on my site and here it is, it works ! It's divided into three main parts : comments on existing games, engines discussions and projects showcase. It's pretty void now, I just dropped a few posts about some games I liked and no-one answered for now :(
So if u're space-sim-oriented, the place is open for discussion ^-^

| | | You have some nice artwork on your website. You should add yourself to the Help Bin and then create a "Help Available" post; you can list your artwork skills since artitsts are very difficult to find.
| | | Hi all, hi Eric,
Thanks for ur reply. I've got nice artwork, but they're not mine. They're made by many artists who dropped a pic or two, or more for some, into the Hoshikaze 2250 project.
| | | Hi all,
HELP ! I'm the only one posting on the new forum :( It's despairing !What's wrong w/ it ? Could s/o give me any hint to fix the causes for that lack of interest... ^-^
Thanks in advance.

Right now, nobody wants to hang out at your site because nobody hangs out at your site--kind of a catch 22. Sometimes having a lot of categories can make a forum feel even more empty than it really is, so you might consider trimming it down until you get more traffic.
Another thing is that the world of a space sim developer is very small indeed. Why so few people want to make space sims is beyond me, but the fact remains that you are aiming for a very small audience.
I would recommend you not panic yet. Try putting a link to your forum in the sinature of all your posts. Whenever you see or here of somone working on a space sim, you could personally invite them to join you on your forum. If you can draw dozen people to your site, they will attract others.
| | | I think the main reason that people isn't using your forum is that it's such a narrow subject. Well, space is a big subject, but game developers interested in space simulation games are a really narrow subject.
I think that having a less narrow forum would attract more people. A simulation games forum for instance. But then again, if the forum is too general, people would probably prefer more established forums that has the same categories.
You could also use other forums to discuss space simulation games. The one here on VBGamer, or the one that GPwiki.org for instance. But those forums arn't yours, of course, and I can understand that you want you own forum if you're really insterested in this subject, but such a narrow forum dosn't just get popular over night.
That's just my 2 cents. The best of luck with your forum! :)
| | | | | | Thanks for all your advices, I'll try that and be more patient...

| | | Hi all,
Sorry for the seeming "answer to Sion only", but it was intended for everyone... I've done some trimming, reducing the number of forums to an acceptable average. And look at my signature, it's done ^-^

| | | Hi all,
Thanks everyone for the advice, the forum is still uncertain but I think it'll thrive and it already has been useful for some people ^-^
