This will actually make things a TON easier for 3d the Guys and gals, since they don't have to worry about initialising, enumerating both interfaces, it's now done through one compact interface...
It also means that the two can be integrated more efficiently (since Blitting DirectDraw Surfaces to 3d devices in previous versions of DX caused massive rendering pipeline stalls, and this allows M$ to do something about it =)
You never know, they may actually finally get round to adding a decent Alpha Blending / rotation system to the 2d side now =)
