I'm with you ! Adam Hoult (4 replies, 0 views) (2000-Sep-22) I'm one of the few lovers of how sound, well how it Sounds really =) Our current Engine supports Reverb / Echo effects when in certain areas (i.e Sewer ) etc...
I read an interview with an "Audio Technician" on one of the big games (can't remember which) and he said "it's a very thankless job" and he's right, the audio guys job is to not get noticed... Strange to say that, but think about it, if the sound is superb, you shouldn't notice it, it should be there, adding to the whole experience but it shouldn't jump out at you in the way BAD sound effects do. If the sound is bad, you will really hear that it's bad.... These are his words not mine, but I happen to agree with him =)
While I am looking forward to DirectAudio, the New DirectGraphics looks/sounds phenominal, what with Pixel and Vertex shaders allowing you minute control over EVERY pixel that's rendered, this will start to push things like Volumetric Lighting into the "Standard" game category.
