First off, I would like to thank all of you who participated in the private beta test for RetroBlast.
Based on feedback, I made some final tweaks before making this version available. There's ALOT more comments that testers wanted in the game, but my sanity needs a break so unless there's a big bug or "show stopper" in this version, this will be the version that I package up and make available to the masses sometime this weekend or early next week.
I've had a few comments from other users about similar games available. Well, I've tested them all and some are freaking amazing, BUT they run slow or not at all on older hardware. I coded this game on my 400mhz Geforce 2MX system. The goal was to make sure even older computers ran the game ok. I'm proud to say even on that old 400mhz system, DXG keeps things rolling around 20-30fps. :) And that's with MOD track music going as well. ;)
A few users have called this a "Geometry Wars" wannabe. :) lol. The truth is I never played GW until last week, and while the visual style is "somewhat" similar this game in my opinion is nothing like it. Sure they have some similar looking shapes, but that's just about it.
After talking with a few software portals I found out that "mouse only" games are becoming very popular on the PC. End users at work and older users (us 30++ folk) prefer a game where you can grab the mouse and go, this games attempts to do that. So for you guys working on games, mouse control should be your primary device. ;)
This version also has online high score support using a custom encryption routine I wrote. If anyone hacks it and figures it out shoot me an email, info at dxgame dot com. ;)
For those that take the time to download this version, please give me your feedback, about ANYTHING. Good comments are preferred LOL but feel free to post your honest feedback, good or bad.
I'm very curious if the game demo does enough to make the end user want to purchase it. The builit in attract mode, the demo at the end, etc, etc. All of these are very important so your thoughts about this is appreciated.
