RE: 3d Alex (2 replies, 0 views) (2000-Jun-7) Actually, most VB programmers at least are programming 2D games still. DDCK, Galaxy, Rahaji, and pretty much every game on Peter's Huge Games List besides some of Martin's RM games.
To Warder: Well, what do you mean by "realistic"? Quake3 wasn't SUPPOSED to look photorealistic, but was rather designed to have sort of a comic book/graphic novel type quality to it. But that doesn't mean that the engine or graphics sucked. I mean, the game I'm working on, Enigma, is slated to be a VERY realistic 3D game in realtime taking place in a gritty downtown city. That doesn't mean it will look exactly like a real city, but just how advanced do you think technology is?? I mean, it seems that your argument is almost that we shouldn't develop in 3D until it's good enough to make completely realistic games ... well how will we ever get there if we don't develop less-perfect 3D games first?
Second: It's not ALL about the graphics, you guys. Enigma switched to 3D because we believed that the medium would better express the kind of gameplay that I wanted to create and would better exploit the new kind of experience I wanted to give to gamers. Just because it doesn't look perfect doesn't mean it's a bad game (look at all the old-school 2D games...).
Just a quick rant, pay no mind.
