New hardware enumeration helper library (beta version) - VBBR (22 replies, 2345 views) (2004-Mar-1)
-
I have created a small helper library (HXeNUM) with DirectX8 that has the following features:
  • Hardware Adapters Enumeration
  • Checking for Hardware Acceleration Support
  • Screen Display Modes Enumeration
  • Retrieving the current display mode being used in a particular device
  • Evaluation of particular features of the hardware adapter such as Depth Buffer formats, Maximum Active Lights, Maximum Texture Size and Blend Stages. It's still in a beta version, and so some bugs may be still in it. But, it's supposed to work at most situations. The ZIP file contain an HTML file for reference, the binaries for the DLL and an example program as well as source code for both. http://www.freewebs.com/hxs2/download.htm

I will check it out...

Strange, it works for me... anyone else tried it?

It's really very strange that it doesn't work, because I don't think it would be posted here if the link were down...

It doesn't work for me either. Have you tried to access the URL with an "outside" machine? Has anyone successfully connected to it. The URL seems an odd one.

Yeah, I thought that and asked someone else and it worked... Really odd. I will check again.

Very strange. Checked again with another pc and it worked... Maybe try right-clicking and "Save Target As...", I really don't know. The URL is odd, but is certainly right...

Got another one... Try this URL: http://www.freewebs.com/hxs2/hxenum.zip

That alternate one (freewebs) works good for me. Is the original URL a rather newly-defined domain? If so, maybe it just hasn't propogated around the Internet yet ... :-/

It's another hosting... But the old one worked here so I can't tell why it doesn't worked for you... Anyway, I know the new works now, thanks.

Hey, Eric or Peter (sorry, don't know who's in charge of this) it it possible for you to replace the original link in the news with this one? Thanks. (http://www.freewebs.com/hxs2/hxenum.zip)

Okay ... that's just weird! I added it to the bottom of the news post as "Alternate Download" ... but when I click the link, it just re-loads the VBgamer News page. :-p If I copy and paste the address into the browser, then it finds the download just fine. Anyone else see what I'm seeing?

Yeah, it reloads the news page when you click it...

Oh, and BTW, could you also REMOVE the old one, 'cause I have indeed deleted it as it was using space but not working...

Okay ... I removed the old link and put the new one in without the auto-hyperlinking, so people will need to copy & paste it (since that seems to work fine). Hopefully Eric can figure out what the dealio is with the weird URL behavior.

I added a target = blank to the URL parser. That fixed it, but the problem was not with the URL, that was fine. I think the problem is with the freewebs.com hosting. They may do some sort of redirection to the referer for any sites that have a direct link to files on their server. I'm surprised that adding a target fixed it.

Well, now when I click it instead of refreshing the news page, it just opens another...

OK, I have made a redirection page, hope it works... Direct the link to http://www.freewebs.com/hxs2/download.htm

Great, it's finally working now.

Has anyone downloaded it? It would be good to see some comments... I mean about the lib, more than these 19... =D

I dl'd it and tried the test prg and it gave me a list of display modes but they were all @0hz.

Very strange indeed...
