Meteor Impact is an arcade-like 2D game where you must destroy meteors before the hit Earth. It is freeware. Features
  • Simple and straight-forward gameplay
  • 16 different powerups
  • 10 levels ranging from easy to nearly impossible
  • Clean high quality graphics with many special effects
  • Old-school Commodore 64 music Visit Meteor Impact website Download Meteor Impact [4MB] The game uses Paul Berlins PGE game engine, which can be found here. It's my first game and the gameplay could prehabs be more fun, but hey - you live and you learn, right? Please leave a comment or your opinion of the game in the forum.

I get 3 FPS. I have a 600Mhz Pentium 3, which isn't a slow processor.

Hey it ran pretty smooth on my amd1330 512 meg ram 64meg gforce2. 35FPS ps. The whole screen was bigger than my display height , i'd suggest going to full screen mode. other than that , auto fire would be nice 2. Good job.

Ok, I get an error after a while: Overflow, The instruction at "0x10010e36" referenced memory at "0x10010e36". The memory could not be "read". I also got some weird vertical black bars as it scrolled sideways. That is probably due to my resolution:1680x1050. It was a fun game though, very challenging. :)

Wow! 1680x1050??? What are your video card and monitor size? I use 1280x960 in a GeForce2 MX and 17 inches monitor... And I find it really big!

400 mhz intel celeron 128 mb ram nvidia geforce fx 5200 w/ 128 mb It never dropped below 29fps for me, but that is probably because of my video card... I doubt processor speed has much to do with this grapicaly intensive game... I thought it was a great game, needs some more to it though... and I loved the music, took me back...lol nice job... DaBooda out...

It wasn't MY computer, it was my mom's laptop... It isn't THAT great, 64 MB GeForce go5200... The monitor on my archaic piece of junk can go up to 1600x1200, though I don't like it. The icons are tiny! I think I can also go higher (2048x1536!), but it would only render the first 1600x1200 pixels. I assume that is a discrepancy between the monitor and graphics card... I forgot to mention, I don't know if it was a glitch, but after 30 seconds it started to blow stuff up just by dragging the cursor over it, instead of clicking. I though it was a special item or something, but it lasted a couple of minutes until I got the error. It may have something to do with the touchpad, but I don't know...

Yah, this better be free since FMOD costs the developer $2000.00 for use in 1 Windows APP!!!!! Yikes!!

It hink he just meant that most of the work was on the GPU, not to much math off the CPU...

See, I'm not sure if this only occurs here, but I get a file that is called "Meteor", just "Meteor". I tried and renamed it to "meteor.zip" and it worked, but it's not that obvious. Did anyone have this problem?

Hey all, and thank you very much for your (fortunatly mostly positive) comments! Prehabs I should provide you with a bit of background of the game. It was originally created as a simple test of what could be made with Paul Berlins PGE engine. Lol, even the source code directory is still named "Test" ;) The first thing I made was a menu, which - of cause - was a stupid idea because then I had to add some functionallity to the menus and make a game of it. Then I thought of making a game for my littlesisters 8th year birthday where some balls were shot into the air and had to be clicked to explode in a colorful fireworks display. This would be simple, and would combine mouse accuacy with something for children (fireworks!). But somehow the idea escalated into a more complex game where meteors should be destroyed instead. Therefore also the percentage number you see when you click a meteor - it is a calculation of how close to the meteor's center you've clicked. The closer the more damage is delt. If closer than 95% to the center, then a blast wave is released destroying nearby meteors. The game or the framerate is not optimized in any way, so the game has very high specifications. I've estimated the minimum requirements to a 1Ghz CPU and at least 16MB on the gfx card. The game runs a smooth 150-700 FPS on my 2500+ Mhz Barthon XP with a Radeon 9500 Pro however :P To those of you having problems: I have no idea what caused them, or how to fix them so you'll have to bear with them. Some for the essay - guess I'm still not sober from last nights graduation-party. /Anders Nissen

Thats what I meant by graphically intensive, the gpu is being used way more than the cpu... was all I meant...lol Dabooda out...

2dcoder, FMOD is actually not nearly that expensive to use. If you're a hobbist and only sell a relatively small amount then it's only 100$ to use this industrial strength music and sound system - not bad :)

Good lord, I just checked out the FMOD site... they have got to be kidding charging that much money... sad thing is people will pay it too... even 100 dollars for small shareware licenses is too much... I would only pay that if it was a full fledged engine and it wrote the game for me...lol DaBooda out... P.S. I'm cheap, I will not spend money on something, given time that I could program myself...

I had the same problem you had VBBR, only on my computer XP somehow thought it was an MS dos program. I never got below 170 FPS, and sometimes much higher. I have a 3GHz Pentium 4, with a 128MB ATI Radeon PRO graphics card.

I got an Automation error after entering my name in to the highscore board for the first time, 2nd time around was ok. as for fps, couldn't see a counter anywhere on the screen but it ran ok on my Radeon 9600 Athlon 1500+ win xp pro box. Oh, one other thing, my clicker finger is feeling the pain after the intesive workout, Any chance of getting the spacebar to be substituted for the left mouse click :)
