Cool Pong for DaBooda2DEngine v1.0 - Finished masterbooda (21 replies, 2404 views) (2004-Apr-29) This game is the first official game written with the DaBooda2DEnginev1.0 dll. Although it is just a silly little pong game.
It demonstrates some of the effects and abilities of the engine.
Please feel free to download and enjoy...
I'm on a new server now...my own... I will be on during the day from 8 am to 6 pm central time...

| | | I get a Can't Create ActiveX component (or whatever) when I press the play button.
Windows XP Pro
512 MB RAM
NVIDIA Vanta
Pentium III
| | | EACam, you need to register the DaBooda engine dll. Follow the readme provided.
The game doesn't run with software acceleration or the other option, only hardware. The loading screen sticks for some time and never jumps into the game until I overlap another window over it. Also you should consider giving the window border a taskbar or some other way of moving the window around.
Aside from a few minor problems, the example ran fine and I was actually having fun playing it. Ran smooth, really nice. The bottom line is I liked it. Btw, is there any online support for the engine and its games? :)
| | | You need to register the DLL with Regsvr32. Easiest way to do this is to affiliate .dll files to 'open with' Regsvr32.exe (found in the windows\system32 directory)
Pretty niffty demo, I like the screen fades - took a while to load though.
| | | I'm glad you liked the demo, and sorry for any confusion with the dll... I tried to explain it with the readme...
As for the load screen, this is an issue I'm trying to tackle...whats going on is it is calculating the frame rate and taking it to 60fps... I am working on a better fps calculation routine..and will install it into the second version of the engine...but once it does limit to 60 fps, it runs constant..
As for any online help or support just visit my site at http://dabooda.gameserve.com
Here you will find an extensive html help file and some tutorial programs... Im working on getting more tutorials out...
| | | I just wanted to add real quick for the next couple of days, I will be keeping the server running 24/7.... with my own server I don't have to follow any rules, but I have to keep my computer on all the time... You win some, you lose some...
DaBooda Out...
| | | Sorry, did that and now it opens but can't initialize the display...i dunno.
| | | I looked your video card specs up online, and it only supports stencil buffering up to 8bit, my engine requires at least 16bit...
This is something I will resolve...please bare with me...this engine will run on most setups, there are still those that it won't and this engine, being in its infancy, still has some distance to go before being complete...but if your running some good specs...you will have no problem whatsoever running this...
This is what I am running and designed the engine on these specs...
400mhz celeron
Win98
128mb ram
nvidia geforce 5200 128mb(16mb will do, I'm an overachiever)

| | | no offecne but whos ever heard of a 400mhz machine with more tan a geforce2 ?
| | | I'm sorry, my video card used to be in a p3 2.1.....but the motherboard fried and I am currently in wait for another one...
I cannot stress this enough... this engine does not require much... a geforce2 will be more than enough....
People just assume that you need a powerful machine to run anything written for directx 8...believe me you don't directx 8 is actually considered old now... just download the game and at least try to run it... Then bash me for being a horrible programmer... this is all I ask... trust me, I'm keeping track of all the downloads...
| | | I can't get to the website. I tried both links, and I get the "This page cannot be displayed..." crap
| | | That is what I get, I leave my server on for two whole days... and get no hits...
Turn it off and someone tries to access it... I can't win for losing...
The hours are listed in the post... and I will always be on during those times...
| | | want me to put it up on some spare webspace of mine?
| | | Great! The fading effects are really good. I think it shows the potential your engine has.
The only problem I experienced was, the game didn't work with software (SW) rendering... "Error starting the game" or something like this and then "Runtime error: Automation error".
| | | Why not use a free webhost? I'm sure you can find a good one if you search long enough. I have.
| | | I've been through about 3 of them, and the last one I used was good, had no limit on bandwidth with 50mb of space... but they went down... So I am fed up with all the rules and limits... this way I can use any external programming I wish and have unlimited space and bandwidth... I am going to set up better times... probably 8am to 10pm or something to that effect...

| | | Sorry, didn't work on my laptop either.
Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller
Dell Inspiron 1100
64 MB video memory
256 RAM
Celeron Processor 2.3 GHz
| | | I'm going open up the engine code and check a few things... The only thing I can figure... is I know the 64mb ram is shared for that card... maybe my engine is asking for something hardware specific..
This is the only thing I can think of, because very few people have experienced any problems outside of not registering the dll... and not beign able to use the software rasterizer... In which I can't either... but hardware has worked for at least 90% of the people..
What I need is people to tell me their specs that the engine does work with...
I will get this problem solved... just bare with me...
DaBooda out...
| | | Do you want the specs here?
| | | I put the dll in the system folder and registered it and still got the run time error, can't create activex component... I tried it many times, also unregistered it, tried putting it in the system32 folder, tried putting it in the windows folder too but it still wasn't working :/....
I cannot also open the demo in visual basic,it says cannot create refrence to DaBooda2DEngine.dll in WINDOWS folder, although if i make a new vb project i am able to see and reference it. Sorry I am probably missing something obvious
| | | It runs very slowly on my Win 98 machine with TNT2 Ultra card. And yes I have the updated drivers. The other coders demos here run fine.
| | | "The other coders demos here run fine. "
I have ran into a few that do not. And for it running slow, yes it does, this is why I upgraded the engine, and have tossed this one to the side. Ignore this engine, but this game runs fine on most systems.
