New Logo
Eric ColemanOk, so VBGamer will be getting a facelift soon, so would anyone be interested in submitting some new ideas for a better layout and/or a new logo?
VBBRI would be happy collaborating but my artistic skills are so bad that probably the site would get 0 visitors. [:D] Oh, wait, not 0. In fact it would have at least one... You... (of course if even you doesn't come here I will notice I have screwed the site)
Sr. GuapoWhat is wrong with the current asthetics (spelling)?
Eric ColemanThe current location and originization of the different features are are a bit out of place. Here are some demos that I made, http://www.vbgamer.com/vb3.asp this uses CSS to create the buttons, the page resizes nicely. http://www.vbgamer.com/vb4.asp this one has New,Reviews,Previews, BHGL, and Coded in VB in the console section. http://www.vbgamer.com/vb5css.asp I used this theme from the Zen Garden website.
sdwvb5css.asp definitly looks cooler than the other ones, but I think it's too distracting. Of the three given, I like vb3.asp the most.
Sr. GuapoI agree, vb3 is the best.
EACamHmmmm. I say just fix those "misplacement" (I haven't noticed any)...but it's current layout is just fine for me...it's warm. vb5 definately looks cool...but sdw's right...and it's a little too...um...how should i put it...unoriginal, and cold. I dislike metalic, futuristic themes because they remind of cold outer-space or cold metal. This soft, dark, blue with dark grey just makes one feel...cozy. Boy, web design seems like house design! It's like painting a room...dark, blood red makes one feel cozy...light blue is cold...yellow is ick...purple is dumb, white is empty...etc.
Sr. GuapoWow, you've thought about this alot...
EACamNo...my mom does a lot of this around the house...i just pick it up [;)]
Eric ColemanI'll be out of town till next weekend, so if anyone would like to come up with a better website design, then I'll be happy to see it next weekend.
Eric ColemanAlso, vb5css was a proof of concept page. It is entirely defined by CSS (no tables), so if you have a decent web browser, such as FireFox, you can view the page without CSS, which is pretty cool. If anyone is familar with the CSS Zen Garden, you'll know how powerfull CSS truely is. With the vb5 page, the entire website's look and feel can be edited quite easily.
ballistikIf I can get some time I can try to come up with a couple different logos for you to look at. I'll post anything that I come up with. I like the layout of vb5css, but not the color-scheme, etc.
VBBRI think vb5 is the best in terms of positioning and general layout. vb3 and vb4 seemed so strange in my 1152x864 pixels display. The colors are a bit odd but as you said it can be changed fairly easy... Also, don't forget to allocate some space for the "latest posts" area! [;)]
EACamOne question. Why do all the icons, etc. blink when I move my mouse next to their link? Like those sliding lights in vb5, they always blink when I move my mouse over them or their link. And the arrows in the current theme, the entire button disappears for a second. ???
Eric ColemanProbably because you're using IE 5 or possibly you have IE to always download images instead of only downloading them when needed. Comments are great, but suggestions are better. Create some logos or something.
Almar Joling1) Keep the original logo. I like it. :) 2) if using the vb3.asp thing, I'd prefer a different order for the buttons I guess... like tutorials, files, and forum at the top, then the more static stuff (preview/review), and then extra's like BHGL, newsticker. 3) If the buttons blink, change your IE's caching settings (Options -> [current tab] Temporary internet files -> Settings -> Automatically -> ok.
cjb0087thanx Almar p.s. what ever happened to that thing with google neverlands? did you fix it?

Eric ColemanThat's cool. Keep the ideas flowing!
cjb0087thats about the extent of my artistic talents
PeterNo, I dont have it, trust me. All my fonts were in the windows fonts folder and that hard disk was formatted when I installed winxp. I also forgot to backup the alpha 7 tools, which was really bad, but luckily i have a backup of those (like 5000 lines of code would have been lost if I didnt have those)

CD's are your backup friends :) these days I backup my stuff every now and then, two copies, and on two locations (grandparents, and at home).. just in case.. :)
Eric ColemanWhy hasn't anyone posted any suggestions or comments?
Sr. GuapoWe're programmers... not artists [;)]
ballistikI haven't had any time lately to come up with anything. I just started my new job last week so my time has been cut down to play. [:/]
Sr. GuapoI might give some effort after thursday (last day of school[:D]).
Almar JolingI like the logo just the way it is :)
VBBRMe too. I like the "aracnoid" shape in the "gamer" word. [:)]
Eric ColemanWell, Peter lost that font, so if anyone know's what it's called, let me know. And since no one is giving any suggestions, then don't blame me when the website becomes ugly, [:p][:p]
BrykovianEric ... I like the way the site looks -- especially the combination of colors. If you're looking for a new graphical logo, then I'll just say that it should just fit in nicely with existing color set. As for layout ... anything that "tightens up" or "streamlines" the flow of the page is a good thing. I think it's fine as is, but I like tighter, more efficient seeming layouts. That's not much for constructive advice, I understand ... but my reason for not posting earlier is that as long as you didn't make drastic changes, I'd probably be fine with it. You know me ... "content over presentation ..." [:P] -Bryk

I wonder if he reaslly doesn't have a backup of it somewhere. For example, I sorted out ALL my old stuff, dating frmo '97.. saw lots of VB stuff like Jump point ion 1&2, the menace samples, etc :). I have the habbit of downloading some good (old) sites anyway, before it really disappears sometime.. :)
VBBRWow... and just the other day someone told me I was paranoid... [:P]
