Interpolate function |
EACam | Um...Jack Hoxley has this tips and tricks article for DX8 and in the Gamma correction part he uses the Interpolate function which I don't have!
Can anyone give this function to me (it's called Interpolate, duh)? |
EACam | Oh...and what's the difference between Gamma Calibration and Gamma Correction? |
Sr. Guapo | I don't know, have you emailed Jack yourself? He is pretty quick with replies
PS - use the Jack.Hoxley@DirectX4VB.com email, the other is invalid |
masterbooda | Gamma Calibration and Gamma Correction...... from what I remember did the same thing, but had different usage.... Also something to be careful of, is that some of the newer cards, don't support any Gamma Correction....
DaBooda out... |
EACam | Yeah...mine doesn't support calibration, but DOES support correction in fullscreen mode (at least, that's what my enums say). |
VBBR | In normal conditions from what I know you can't change the gamma while in windowed mode, because the gamma is always changed for the WHOLE screen and in windowed mode you don't have control of it; while in Fullscreen mode (as the name says) you do have. |
Sr. Guapo | I wouldn't always trust the enum programs. When I used the tutorial one from Directx4vb, it said my voodoo3 could not support any lights, though I tried up to eight without error... |
VBBR | DX says my GeForce 2 doesn't support anti-aliasing... and in fact I can't set it up with either DX or OGL but in the video driver window I can set up to 4x anti-aliasing and it works fine then. |
EACam | I had the same problem with lights (MaxActiveLights = 0 ??? wha?)...but it worked on my friends comp(-1, unlimited)... I dunno. |
VBBR | Hey I think no video adapter today supports unlimited hardware lights. You must have used the reference rasterizer? |
Sr. Guapo | No, my new card (Radeon 9200) says the same thing. I think it can support unlimited (or an incredibaly high number), just at a cost to processing speed. Which is a slight problem on my computer (500 MHz!) |
VBBR | If it costs speed on the CPU then the lights are spftware-based [:D] It may reduce the FPS dratically. (I mean, using too much lights) |
EACam | Well...anything will essentially cost speed on anything...so whether it does it on the CPU or not, it'll effect the FPS. [:D] |
Sr. Guapo | Believe me, even if you have the best graphics card in the world, a 500 MHz processor will hurt... It sucks. I want to save up for a laptop, but the one I want costs $6000!
PS - No, I will not compromise, 2 GB RAM is not too much... hehehe... |
masterbooda | Don't feel bad Sr. Quapo, I'm running a geforce xfx 5200 128 mb onboard, in a 400mhz system, and it does kill the speed... the card may do all the math needed for graphics, but the system processer has to still be in play...
For example I have this demo I wrote in vb, I ran it on my brotherinlaw's computer which is a 1.6, same video card as mine... I was up to about 800fps.... On mine, 300fps.... It makes a big difference... unfortunately the card can be only as good as the system its in... sigh I miss my old computer...
DaBooda out... |
VBBR | I use a GeForce2 MX in an Athlon XP 1800 MHz... I guess the proccessor does the job here...
(altough I'm looking foward to a GeForce FX 5200...)
(hey just noticed I said "GeForce MX"... I meant "GeForce FX"... hehe sorry) |
Sr. Guapo | Poor thing... |
VBBR | Um, if you mean me, I have been looking for prices and the FX 5200 is not as expensive as I thought...
Anyway the GeForce 2 MX isn't that bad. At least better than a Voodoo 3 PCI.
(I'm probably saying this because I haven't saw yet an FX in live...)

EACam | I have a laptop and I got it for $540 (US $)...it doesn't have the gratest accessories in the world...but at least its portable! |
Sr. Guapo | (sarcasm previously...) Anyway, that is my problem, I refuse to compromise. I'm just too stubborn. |

Bad words about a Voodoo3? Now you're playing with fire... [:)] [:D] |
Sr. Guapo | I used to have a voodoo 3... glad I chucked that though... |
