For those of you who've been around since mid-2001, you may recall the Golden Coconut Awards that were held by the doofy folk over at VB Gamers Haven. Well, we're back!
Here's how it works: - there are 10 main categories:
1) best programmer 2) best contributor 3) best website content 4) best community site 5) best technology 6) best complete game 7) best new site 8) most original concept 9) award for general excellence 10) award for most prominent work
A panel of judges decides who wins for these categories, and ultimately may also decide on new categories depending on how things are run.
SO, that brings me back to the subject, which is, would you like to be a judge? Email me at jasonli@iname.com with brief VBgaming-related credentials (or if I recognize your name, that'll probably do) and you'll most likely be given the job.
The website for it is at: http://www.vbdirectx.com/nuts2003/

I'll judge to the best of my ability, which is essentially that I won't mainly because I haven't kept up much recently... so I'll try to run things and goto things people point to - which is the best i can do at this point. |

It seems liek the entire VB gaming community is going to inactivity, not much news lately, and boards aren't going with the same speed as a month ago...

C'mon, Almar ... how many times have you seen such a comment?! This type of thing always ebbs and flows. The majority of VB game programmers are still school aged ... so early summer probably leads to a good number of people enjoying their freetime with something other than project-based stuff.
Just as in the past, the future will be full of slow times and active times ...

Maybe all the the VB programmers are just hibernating...? Might be catching up on all those hours of sleep they miss every night hehe. Besides, I don't know about you but I'm busy working on my game, and others probably are, too. |

Actually, I'm enjoying my free time =)
This week, between hanging out with my friends, my raging NWN addiction, graduation, and prom, there's not much time for programming.

Hope for betted days? :) hehehe. Personally I've been quite active with programming, just not been very active in the community, perhaps there are a few others doing the same thing. Anyway, I see your point though Almar. Community seems a bit dead atm :( |

Yeah, but then again to be honest, the community has always seemd "a bit dead". That's the most leveraged complaint I've heard over the past 5 years or so and its always a bit true ;)
However, the amount of news coming into vbgamer has increased recently, so thats a good thing. Probably has something to do with the fact that it is summer vacation. |

I'm not sure the Golden Coconut Awards will happen. I've tried to contact Jason, but he seems to be have pulled a Goodlad on us. There's always the 2003 Christmas contest to look forward to
I'm not sure if the community is dead or not. A few months after I installed this forum, I deleted all of the users that had registered at VBgamer but had never posted any news or any comments. (you can tell who the original members are by the lack of a date in the 'member since' field) That was quite a few hundred people that I removed. If you look at the current members list, there are even more people that registered but never post anything. The whole reason behind adding this forum to VBGamer was to give all of those original people that had registered a place to post. I have no idea why people register but don't post anything. Its weird. |

Maybe to add links, or something. Well, I wouldn't have an idea actually :). I like how every thing works and is merged together.
Btw.. aren't both vbdirectx and vbgamer about to have it's first year anniversary? :) |

Heheh, yeah, I wonder whatever happened to David, one day the servers just shut down and the nexus and everything was gone. I would've imagined he could at least have given people some warning ;)
2003 Christmas Awards: Those should be good =) Although we'll have to finetune the rules somewhat, to make them more fair.
One year anniversarry: W00t =) Yes, I'm very happy with how vbGamer turned out. I think we've managed to take over decently from Adam's VBGC and the nexus. |

Goodlad no more! Um, tho I am very very much late.
Excuses: for the entire July, I was swamped with summerschool work, it was voluntary, but fun (for results: www.hongkonggong.com). Also, for that month and a half I didn't have a stable SMTP server, and logging into webmail to send email is too much for a lazy sod such as myself.
The awards: I've been home for 2 weeks resting up, and have half a week before I'm due back in school (early) for orientation duties. Are you guys still up for it?
Sorry about the delay |

Still interesting in judging though? None of us claim to judge very well, but hopefully enough of us will make up for that.
Current judge count (excluding me): 6 Latest judge: Aaron of Baronsoft |
