I'll delete this post after March 31 (in just a few days) because that's when this offer expires.

Visit http://www.realsoftware.com/vb6/ and get a free license for the Standard (Win and Mac) versions of RealBasic. I've been playing with already for a few days and it looks really interesting. It's MUCH better than PheonixBasic and XBasic. I haven't done much with it yet, but it looks very promising. It's apparently fully OO, which can be a pain for converting VB6 code, but it's a nice progression. There IS a converter but I haven't tried it yet.

There is apparently a new version they're about to release, so that combined with the latest MS news about the VB6 petition, is the reason for this giveaway. As I said earlier, it's only the Standard Edition. To compile for Linux you'll need the Professional version.

One thing I've noticed is that when compiling a simple "empty form" application it's quite large, about 2 MB. However, that's MUCH smaller than the 100+MB download for .NET, and there are no runtime dependencies because everything is compiled into the .exe file.

It looks like the deadline as been extended to April 8, 2005, so if you haven't got a free license yet go get one! Why are you still reading this. I said go. Now.

Nice, I haven't used it yet but thanks for the link. I'll check it out. I've heard it's a decent language, guess now I will find out for sure how it is.

Thanks for the link! I'm trying it out right now. It's got built in support for 3D and sprite manipulation and so much more, sweet!
