Posted - Mar 28 2005 : 7:38:24 PM I'll delete this post after March 31 (in just a few days) because that's when this offer expires.
Visit http://www.realsoftware.com/vb6/ and get a free license for the Standard (Win and Mac) versions of RealBasic. I've been playing with already for a few days and it looks really interesting. It's MUCH better than PheonixBasic and XBasic. I haven't done much with it yet, but it looks very promising. It's apparently fully OO, which can be a pain for converting VB6 code, but it's a nice progression. There IS a converter but I haven't tried it yet.
There is apparently a new version they're about to release, so that combined with the latest MS news about the VB6 petition, is the reason for this giveaway. As I said earlier, it's only the Standard Edition. To compile for Linux you'll need the Professional version.
One thing I've noticed is that when compiling a simple "empty form" application it's quite large, about 2 MB. However, that's MUCH smaller than the 100+MB download for .NET, and there are no runtime dependencies because everything is compiled into the .exe file.
