Posted - Nov 01 2004 : 5:23:42 PM Ok, I am in the process of making a RPG in VB (which the coding is done for the most part), but my problem is that it is 2D and i want to make it 3D. I am using several studios but i want to use the *.obj format for my 3d art (Wavefont). I have no clue how to do this or even if it can be done! Please help me.
Thanx

Whatever happened to the good ol' Me.Visible = not YoureGay ? |

Really? Awesome. Might have to look into it myself some day if I ever find the need. And sound shouldn't be that hard if you program right. If your engine still has all the timing in place you can turn most or all of the 3d off so it runs at full speed so you can render the sound to a file. Or if all else fails It's hardly hard to use a basic wave editor. Though youu'd have to mesaure and plan out what time you have to insert each sound at. Prolly be easier to use the first method.

Let's stick to VB. I have strong Christian morals, and this topic will only cause division in our community where there already is enough in programming to begin with! Just trying to keep the peace...and help myself from giving a speech.
Woah! Time out there. Now don't get the wrong idea and think I'm angry or flaming anyone. I agree on keeping the peace but I don't see how this topic will cause divisions or anything. Just everyone being silly and making a bit of a joke. I'm probably the only gay person here as it is anyway.
VB is just a programming language. It isn't straight or gay and it doesnt' care about the sexual orentation of the person who uses it. The last thing I want to do is start a big discussion here. But personally I'm really annoyed by all the sex obsessed, polygamous gay people out there who seem to give a bad name to the rest of us gay people. :(.
oh and btw. lesbians are homo's. The word homo doesnt' refer to a particular gender. ;P

Posted - Nov 12 2004 : 11:04:28 AM Actually, there is plenty of free code on the internet on how to encode avi files in VB. The examples show how to encode them frame by frame, so rendering a movie in directx may not be realtime (and neither is using 3ds max for that matter), but it's well within your grasp to simply find the information and put something together. It's just like taking a screenshot of your game except you capture every frame and then add to the file. The only thing that would be somewhat complicated is getting the sound to sync properly, and for that you'll probably want to figure out how to record the track into a wave file and then mix that with the pre-rendered video using a "muxer" program. |

Posted - Nov 12 2004 : 10:02:12 AM Or if he's really insane he make a really high detail version of the movies in VB with d3d or whatever engine you're using and then find a way to individually render each frame and encode it into an avi or whatever. XP
Actuially in my opinion if the game's allready in 3d I think that would be a much easier to just ad insane detail levels to your game and somehow prerender a clip from that. Possibly make a copy of all your games code to work on so you can tweak it around. Since it's just for pre-rendering purposes it doesn't matter if there's bugs and no controls. The only thing I wouldn' thave the slightest clue is how to capture all the frames and put them into an encoder.
That's just my idea anyway. Certianly can't be harder than trying to learn a whole new package and starting everything from scratch there.
Edit: Wheee! I just went up to the 2 star rank of Knave! =^.^= |

Posted - Nov 12 2004 : 08:58:34 AM Sadly, 3ds max can't be learned in just 17 days. You should try some of the free or cheap packages such as Blender, PovRay, Anim8tor, Milkshape, Truespace, etc. |

Posted - Nov 12 2004 : 07:46:55 AM Well, i'm using 3ds Max 7 but i only have 16 days left on my trial period (that means 16 days to find a free serial # lol!) and i'm makin movies for the intro to my game. Sadly, i do not know how to put skin over a bone structure. Does that explain more?! |

Posted - Nov 12 2004 : 05:19:13 AM I've never used 3ds or 3ds max but I'm confused about what making a video in them has to do with the *.obj format or VB beign gay? You may have more luck with your question if explain it in a bit more detail. Or is it something that only makes sense to straight people? ;P |
