Back on May 8, 2004 I made a blog entry describing how you could get a free copy of VB.NET 2003 standard from Microsoft that I found out about on this vbgamer fourm! Well it just arrived in the mail today! And I got more than just vb.net! Check this out ...

... Cool huh! I got vb.net 2003, Windows 2000 professional, windows 2000 server and windows 2000 advanced server, visual studio.net cd, A 100 page tutorial book adapted from the full book titled "Microsoft Visual Basic.NET step by step", I also got 3cds containing the MSDN library.

Here is the original link from where I got all this free stuff...

VB.NET at the movies

And I was just expecting vb.net not all this other stuff. I'm going to get started installing vb 2k3 and report back later...

Sure, I'm on 256. Anyway a 150 MB file can be downloaded in just a few hours, unlike the really bad times when I had a dial-up 56K connection that just connected at around 30K and in reality just used to gave me 3-4 KB/s max. I downloaded the DX8 SDK in two weeks I think. Really far from the 25-30 KB/s I have now.

Well, bandwidth, in my case, is free. I pay a fixed amount and can get as many bytes as I want... for now at least. I think the company may start charging for bandwidth exceeding 3GB/month or something. The problem is I get at least 10 GB/month.

It's not just bandwidth that's the problem. It's also the fact that once you rebuild your pc (and you intend to put XP or some other win os on), you can easily install SP1 and a whole bunch of patches quickly, without having to wait for them to d/l. I'm on 512k dsl and I know I find it much easier to install the 150meg sp1 off CD then d/l'ing it from the MS update

Why, oh why, isn't this offer also valid for countries outside USA and Cannada... say European countries for instance!? :(

I think if you look closely you'll discover that your windows 2000 cd is service pack 4

...which you could also have downloaded...for free?

lol, yeah - i wish we got great offers like that. The last thing I saw that we could sign up for here was a free cd that gives you service pack 1 and all the Windows updates up to Feb this year.

Of course, seen as though it was free I grabbed it :)

all of that stuff comes with VB.net 2003 except for the windows 2000. You probably got that because you posted the offer in a blog
