You got, me, I saw the rank of squire and thought I went up in rank... thought I was going to get a raise... but noooo, you just changed my rank name........

Well at least I'm no longer a mutant...

DaBooda Out....

p.s. I do like the new ranks better, I was never a big fan of StarCraft... I was beat up by the geeks in school for not playing it... now it gives me nightmares....

Forums are better because the topic usually stays on the main topic and doesn't bounce around ............ oh wait....... what were we talking about again??

DaBooda Out...

I'm always at IRC, at about 10 channels .. but no VB gaming channels though.

Forums are simply better anyway. :)

hehe - So a forum is more efficient at containing unneeded and useless data

There are so many VB irc channels (216 when I last searched) that I'm sure one of those can be of use Check for yourself @ http://searchirc.com/irc-VB-1

And then we have newsgroups - much like a forum but more accessible - Plenty of MS newsgroups that relate to VB and directx. Google now provide a interface so they can be accessed on the go:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&group=microsoft.public.vb.general.discussion

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&group=microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.sdk

Theres also the MSDN online which is handy if you don't have a local copy.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/nhp/default.asp?contentid=28000410

A nifty search engine for VB code can be found @ http://www.codehound.com/vb

I think forums are great for getting opinions on things or to get a differant slant on a problem that has been perplexing you for an age. I don't think an IRC chat channel would offer anything that can't be obtained by searching the net - besides - out of the 216 VB related irc channels I wonder how many are active

In my opinion a friendly forum is a much better resource than any number of irc channels

SuperC, that would contain *A LOT* of unneeded, useless data. A forum would be more efficient for that purpose.

IRC, or Internat Relay Chat, is made up of many networks of IRC servers which users may connect to via an IRC client (mIRC is a popular one). Once connected to the server the user may then join channels with other users in them to chat.

"No there isn't an official vbgamer channel for irc because things said and explained on irc are not a searchable resource availbale to everyone else."

Not true. You can keep log files available for download daily and its a searchable resource available to everyone. I think though that if you had an irc channel with people in it, some people would be less likely to post.

I don't even know what IRC is.
Eric Coleman Posted - May 03 2004 : 10:04:28 AM
I'm not sure there are enough vb game programmers to actually have more than one person in the channel at any given time. There are people from all over the world, and the time zone difference makes it difficult for people to actually be in the IRC channel at the sime time. www.Gamedev.net has an IRC channel, so that's something you want to consider.

True, but still I like to hang out in them sometimes just to chat in between lines of code with like minded folks ;)

ballistik Posted - May 02 2004 : 7:44:13 PM
Oh btw, do you all have any preferred IRC channels you like to hang out in as far as game development goes?
sdw Posted - May 02 2004 : 7:12:33 PM
Hehe, farm a post... j/k. Hi ballistik

Hey all,

I'm kinda new here, been lurking for a while though.

Just thought I'd introduce myself and farm a post at the same time.
