Posted - Apr 30 2004 : 08:58:57 AM A just want to mention the one and only complaint I have...
People bashing your program that you, in your kindness decided to share with them... Now I can take criticism, but at least download it and try it out fully before doing so...
Programmers put alot of effort into what they do, and when they share it with other programmers, they do so in hopes that others will find it useful and educating...
When I post news on this sight, I do so to learn what problems other people are having and not having with my program... not to hear that my specs are out of whack or I didn't consider the whole community...
Everytime I open a news topic, I see alot of "your requirements are insane" or similar... I rarely see anything mentioned about the program itself...
This is my only complaint... and if I am totally insane and out of line.. please let me know...

Posted - May 01 2004 : 6:29:18 PM I understand completely. I think this is probably the MAIN factor in everything on the web:
You see, since no body on these forums or whatever can actually SEE each other, and noone will ever actually MEET anyone else, no one cars how rude they are because they don't have to worry about someone "telling their mommy", kind of. I think chat rooms, IM, and forums can get pretty nasty solely because mean people don't try to hide it...and even generally nice people get a little carried away at times. Internet communication is like a conversation without rules of decency and/or formalism. I can call you names with any terrible swear word in any language I want...and what do I get???? Hmmm...maybe I get kicked off the forum...but then again, I could always rejoin with a completely different identity and continue to bug people "undercover." No knows who anyone else is on the internet. I can be Bob Jones on one forum, and Adolf Hitler on another.
Get my drift? I think people just feel that they can be straight forward on chatrooms, etc., which isn't always the nicest thing. Straight forward is ususally "rambling without thinking about how your words will affect the guy your criticizing." If only people would write "you stupid idiot, that program stinks" and then THINK about what they said, and change it to "You know, I think you could do better in the SUCH AND SUCH department :)"
well, that's my view of it anyway. |

Posted - Apr 30 2004 : 7:11:30 PM I give up... I was just trying to make a simple point, as to people who comment on a program without first downloading it and checking it out... this was all I was trying to say... and I will admit, that I am guilty of this...
As for the requirements, I never listed any... I just said what I was using... I do this for good reason, so I can find out what it does or doesn't run... for example finding out eric's card doesn't support stencil buffering... this is something I didn't even give thought too, but now I know.... because he downloaded the program and tried it out... and I am appreciative of him for it...
He commented on the program itself and why it didn't work... this is all I was trying to say... I'm not angry, and I was trying not to come off that way... Honestly... I like criticism, when its well directed and not because someone thinks my hardware is crazy...
Again... sorry to even bring this up... but I felt like it was something important... because I see alot of this hardware bashing... people assume, that your only going to write programs that only you can support...... that is insane... I can't stress it enough, I need to know if it ran or not on different systems... and the only reason I wanted to post this was because of really one comment... someone commented just on the hardware in my system, when all I want to see is their hardware specs and why it doesn't work... this is all I was asking....
I have rambled like a crazy old coot long enough... and I am sorry to even bring it up...

Posted - Apr 30 2004 : 6:16:09 PM I've personally NEVER seen any crap like "This sucks" on any program for any programmign site except for on PSCode when someone submits something that literally sucks (An "Advanced" program that just makes a message box or something). I haven't noticed anyone saying anything bad about your program, just that your requirements are far-out. You just seem to be taking comments a bit personally. |

Posted - Apr 30 2004 : 11:10:57 AM I wasn't even directing the argument at you... I'm glad you replied and told me what was wrong with it on your end, you at least downloaded it and tried it..... That means I need to make my program more compatible with other cards... I have been getting alot of distressing views from people who didn't even bother downloading it and trying it... that is all I'm asking... I'm tired of people making assumptions that it is out of the league of their card without even testing it... people here just get real snippy when it comes to their own hardware... I need to make it more compatible... but at least give me a chance to do so.. before writing it off..... this is all I am asking... And I would like to see more actual reviews of the game and not a hardware battle... frankly this whole hardware issue is really getting on my nerves... |

Posted - Apr 30 2004 : 09:31:36 AM You are totatly insane.
First, stop thinking that every single post is a personal attack on you. Its not.
Are the "requirements" for your game what you have peronsally tested or just what you assume is needed? A lot of people don't have the most expensive video cards. I'm using a 4MB ATI RAGE PRO TURBO, there's no way I would ever be able to play a game that requires a stencil buffer. |
