Well, then you should probably start with something smaller. Use the tutorials at Lucky's site and at VoodooVB. Going to message board and essentially asking for a basic game engine is not the way to go. If you don't know DirectX, LEARN it! Don't ask general questions like that and then get mad when someone tells you to learn it yourself. If you did a little investigating, you'd discover the answer to those questions are on both of the sites I mentioned, in tutorial form. Don't rush to message boards.
