Currently my largest texture surfaces (in D3DIM) are 256x256 as I've read somewhere that you shouldn't use textures bigger than this due to them taking up too much texture memory, and some video cards not supporting bigger surfaces. So would using just 1 texture surface thats 512x512 have a big impact on the number of machines able to run the program.
