I started working a lot on this last year (using alpha channels with DDS files, etc) but have since migrated to DirectX 8.0. We'll be putting out some ridiculously powerful demonstrations of the power of using PNG and TGA files instead of DDS files -- pure, 32-bit images look gorgeous, and don't have the ugly DDS compression that makes sprites look bad. Use DirectX 8! -Jay
