I think if someone turns off cookies (or their browser doesn't support them) then they are going to have a hard time using many sites and they would not complain to you since they only have themselves to blame. Just put in a Privacy thing that says that you are doing it for their benefit and that you are only recording things to enrich their experience and not for anything else. Something along those lines, and you aren't going to sell it, and there is nothing worth selling as well =) Oh yeah, and don't do random passwords, let us choose, and don't do 6-8 characters, let people choose the length (maybe >3?) Or if you do give a random password, make it easy to change it.
