That was the kind of thing I would have done (shrink the backbuffer, then resize again) except that that would require the use of the BLT (in DirectX) which uses the hardware mode of your video card. This would not be good for people with poor video cards, especially since my program runs under 640x480 resolution. Then is no harm trying, so I just have to see.
