Yes you can export animated 3ds files to an x file and play them in d3drm. However the animation is only hirracial (sp?) animations. In other words, lots of objects linked together and rotated and moved. You can still do some cool stuff though, like skeletons and such. X-files dont support vertex deformation or anything. There is a sample here on how to do it with the old dx6 tlbs, im sure it would not be too hard to adapt it for dx7.. it shows how export the files and stuff too. http://www.ur.co.nz/walls3d.htm its quite easy to do.
