The GetSurfaceDesc NewSurfaceDesc line makes sure you don't have to rewrite the whole surface description from scratch.You juast borrow the previous surface description(which is probably the same since you're creating a surface from a BMP file) If you omitt this line then you're making a surface with an empty surface description. I believe it will still work but in some special cases it won't . Voodoo4
