I was at GameDev.net looking through the forums, and I was reading all these people flaming a newbie because they wanted to start by making a 3d game at the age of 12. Anyway, they are all saying to start with Tetris, but they can't do it either they also said. Then in another thread, everyone was all happy because a guy made a scrolling tilebased thing, no game, just a scrolly thing. And they were all amazed. Now this may only be a small proportion of the C++ programmers, but it really did make me a proud VB person, and I made sure I told them so. Yeah.
