>Hey, I have a few questions to ask.. No harm done there... >1.Why do other programmers (using C/C++) always laugh in the faces of VB >programmers? Because VB is not quite as powerful or recognized for quality work, even if it really is. People dont see VB is a professional development language for games, but this is quickly being changed. >2. Is VB a viable alternative for games? you may think this is a dumb question >after I've seen the amazing screenshots on the main page here, but do those >actually run fast? Personally, yes, I see it as a viable alternative. Really, I'd say that it depends on the extensiveness of the project you are attempting to undergo. The games shown have decent frame rates, not as high as something coded in another language like C/C++, but they have been made with a lot less work than a C++ equiv. >3.What will I need, aside from a good version of Visual basic (I have 6 enterprise) >and the DIRECTX SDK? Is there anything else you need to make games? Time, patience, and good coding skills. >4. Is anyone working on a platform game? I really wanna see someone make one >in VB, I love platform games like Super Metroid or Castlevania:SOTN I cant answer on this, since I really dont know. >5.What do you all think of C# ( C Sharp) Microsoft's new programming language? >you can read about it at news.com, just do a search on C# A cross between VB and C++ thats built upon the fundamentals of Java? I personally do not like java. We'll see, I suppose. It'll all depend on how the language can be used. IE: Compiler? Runtimes? Ease of use? Extra dependencies? >6.Is VB going to get any faster in the later versions (the upcoming version 7) I'd say to expect a small increase, but dont expect a drastic change. If you're really in it for speed, go to another language like C. VB is fast enough, in most cases, but speed-sensitive programs will have to be wary of the overhead. Hope this helps a bit....
