RE: OT: PHP, ASP etc.. Carl (0 replies, 0 views) (2000-Jun-21) Well I've recently done the news board on my site <http://freeridedesign.cjb.net> in CGI with perl, and I find the language very easy to do anything, plus there are more webhosts that allow CGI than PHP etc.
Try <http://www.freewebspace.net/search/advanced.shtml> to search for a host that allows CGI.
If you want to learn a bit of CGI with perl then try <http://www.cgi101.com/class/> you can only read the first 6 chapters without actually buying the book, but its good enough to get started. From this I learnt the language in around 2 hours last saturday, and look at my newsboard now, plus it has full administration functions that only I can access with my password.
I'm not saying PHP isn't any good either, but I looked into it and couldn't figure out where to start really.
As for being the resident coder, well I could be interested, it all depends on what else I've got on, but I'd definately help.
