Damn right, what a bunch of assholes !!! HOW DARE they criticise a piece of code, comparing it to something that it wasn't even supposed to be. Most people know (even in the VB community) that for things like Realtime 3D games or the like, movements are scaled based on time, not so much in 2d games since that to me is a waste of CPU cycles in a game where such accuracy doesn't really matter. The lowest common denominator system is used simply because most people with half a brain design and write a game to run on the lowest spec they can, but the time spent waiting for the next frame to occur does not simply have to be squandered, it can be used for additional AI operations or pre-processing for example, ok this is a little more complex, but is a viable solution, to the options they gave. I mean for christs sake, where do they come up with Doevents and Sleep(1) ?? Hmm, good plan, lets let windows process all background events and then sleep for 1 ms, and we will just say that we waited for one millisecond, since windows won't be doing anything anyway, bullshit ! IMHO If you haven't got anything constructive to say, why even say it ??? To make them look big hard and clever ??? I could probably code better than any of them in my sleep in C++ or VB !! Morons. I don't see any of them jumping to help out people trying to understand these things, and putting it in such a high profile place, and for that I congratulate you. The issue isn't even whether to use TimeGetTime or GetTickCount, that is completely irrelavent, but they seem to pick up on it, and screw the entire article over because of the age old feud "My way is better than your way". I mean you saw "newbies" getting confused because of the conflicting arguments. What a bunch of Tossers !!! (Ahem sorry =) GRRRRRRRRRRR LONG LIVE THE VB REVOLUTION !!!! We'll be putting them out of jobs soon, the most valuable coder imho, is one who is versatile enough, to be able to A) Get the most speed out of code, and B) Develop most quickly. So VB and C++ Hand in hand are the future, (the less C++ the better, only for speed critical operations). If you know VB, don't just abandon it, it's the future !!!!! Let them all beg for mercy on the release of the all mighty VB7 ! then they'll be sorry they ever crossed us, as we take all there jobs, money and hopes and dreams for the future =) God damned single minded, egotistical bunch of lame ass morons. End of rant. Adam
